Those With a Why

“Those who have a ‘why’, can bear with almost any ‘how’”

Friedrich Nietzsche

This famous quote by Nietzsche, highlights the importance of having a reason to live or a meaning in life.  One of the main tasks in existential therapy and counseling is to help patients find their ‘why’ in life.  Humans are meaning-making creatures, and wihtout a purpose or a dream or goal to strive for– life loses its luster, and the motivation to continue on in the face of adversity or suffering grows weak.  Finding one’s own ‘why’ is not an easy task, and can take a long time.  Once one does, dealing with the stresses and tragedies of life becomes more manageable, eventually leading to a place of calm and healing.  No matter how hard your struggles are– it is possible to find your ‘why’.
