Couples Therapy
Growing apart can be easy, but coming back together can feel like a frustrating and hopeless road.
Maybe you’ve tried everything to save your relationship, from reading “how-to” articles to filling-out couples' workbooks, or following advice from friends and family. Despite it all, your relationship has been stressed to the breaking point, and the close bond you once had is now becoming a distant memory. This struggle can leave the relationship on shaky ground with a sense of ever-growing doubt and unhappiness.
Realizing that there is extreme disconnection and dissatisfaction in your relationship is painful. Drifting apart can occur so slowly that many couples don’t see it happening until one day the neglect and separation become undeniable. This could be made even more distressing when one partner feels betrayed by the other. Whatever the case may be, partners stuck in reactive patterns and behaviors aren’t able to communicate clearly anymore.
My approach to couples counseling is psychodynamic and psychoanalytical, which essentially means- I’ll observe the way two people interact in a relationship together- paying attention to the patterns, emotions, and reactions that repeatedly come up. As our sessions progress, new types of conversation and ways of interaction can be developed, which opens the path for true sharing, listening, and vulnerability. Without openness, there is no chance for the relationship to survive.
Every relationship has its nuances, and every couple has different goals– but all need a safe place that allows for differing perspectives and feelings to be understood and accepted. As your therapist, it’s my job to create that for you. Whether you want to reconnect to each other, navigate a breach of trust, or move through painful relationship trauma. I will advocate for your goals as a couple and each individual’s unmet needs. From now on, you two don’t have to struggle alone.
When you are ready to start your path towards re-connection and a renewed unified narrative– I can help you get there.
